Lesson activities

Step 1: Meet the Construction Crew

2 minutes

Introduce the animals and their vehicles. Ask children if they recognise any of the trucks, such as a digger, bulldozer, dump truck, road roller, crane or pickup truck. Invite them to guess what each vehicle might do.

Step 2: Sing and Move Like a Truck

4 minutes

Play the video and encourage children to join in with the repeated chorus and truck sounds. Pretend to dig and scoop like Piggy, push like a bulldozer, roll like Panda, lift hands high like a crane and make beep-beep and zoom-zoom sounds. Clap, stomp and spin when prompted, adapting movements to each child's abilities.

Step 3: Who Drives Which Truck?

3 minutes

Recall the six animal drivers: Piggy in the digger, Tiger in the bulldozer, Monkey in the dump truck, Panda in the road roller, Penguin in the crane and Puppy in the pickup truck. Invite children to name or point to each animal and vehicle, then count selected trucks in the activity pack.

Step 4: Construction Site Activity

4 minutes

Choose one activity from the printable pack. Children could match animals to their trucks, trace a vehicle's path, help Piggy through the digger maze, find hidden hard hats or traffic cones, continue a picture pattern, or try the spot-the-difference puzzle. Offer pointing and verbal prompts where needed.

Step 5: Truck Crew Recap

2 minutes

Call out a vehicle action and let children act it out: dig and scoop, push, roll, lift or beep the horn. Ask them to remember one animal and its truck, then finish with the chorus and a cheerful 'Bye-bye trucks!'

Questions to ask

  • Which animal drives the digger?
  • Who drives the bulldozer?
  • What does a crane do?
  • Can you make a truck sound?
  • Can you count the trucks or construction objects on the activity page?
  • Which vehicle or activity did you enjoy most?

Finish together

Children explored animal and vehicle vocabulary through music, movement and pretend construction play. Matching drivers to vehicles supported memory and classification, while counting and printable puzzles provided opportunities to practise early numeracy, visual observation and fine-motor skills.
